My first solo hike to the Bluffs
by Missy Whitt 4/14/05
Hey Ed,

I just wanted to let you in on my first solo hike. I went over to the park on Thursday the 14th, and decided the weather was too pretty not to take advantage of it! So, I decided to hike to the Bluffs at Alum Cave. I must admit that I was somewhat unprepared because I only had intentions for riding around -- but alas -- it was too beautiful to stay inside--so with my 20 oz. of water and stick in hand, I set out at noon.

Upon arriving to the parking lot, I noticed there are not too many cars there. I hiked to Arch Rock and never saw a soul, on the upper side of it--before Inspiration Point, I ran into none other than Tillroe! I recognized him immediately from your pictures and stopped to talk with him for about 20 minutes. He gave me his last candy bar just in case I decided to go on to the top.....but I did not go--I had to work a long day today--so I took her easy. The views were gorgeous and I hated that fact that I do not have a camera at the moment. I looked and listened for the falcons, but to no avail. I passed at total of 25 people on the entire trip--so I liked that there were people there--but that I had solitude too. I felt safe--and that is a good feeling.

So, I just wanted to share my day with you--you can post this if you want to, the folks that I passed coming down from the lodge said there was some snow--but the trail was clear--was muddy and wet in the usual spots though.

Hope to catch you next time!

Missy
