Joe Steele and Tillroe Smith's attempt to Hike Alum Cave Bluff Trail on 12/12/04 |
| Hi Ed, Tillroe and I tried to hike Sunday, December 12, 2004. We started in four inches of snow. There was thirteen inches on top. We had to stop short of the first footlog because of the drooping rodies. (Snow laden branches) I have never seen the trail in that condition. It was virtually impassable. We were on our hands and knees for nearly an hour. Tillroe's back couldn't take the stooping over so we gave up just short of the first footlog and came back down. Tillroe said that in all of the hikes he had made he had never seen the trail like that. I have been rained out, snowed out, and iced out, but never 'limbed' out. It had to have been a very heavy wet snow. We were disappointed about the hike but the scenery was beautiful. One other thing, please keep your news letter on your website going, I miss seeing what you are doing. Hope everything is about back to normal after the storm. Take care my friend, Joe Steele |
