Pastor Dale Campbell’s hike to the LeConte Lodge on May 19– 20 2007
This was my third trip to LeConte Lodge. After making the trip twice last year, I decided to take a group of men from my church (Grace Fellowship, London, Kentucky) for an overnight stay at the lodge.  There were eleven of us who made the climb using the Alum Cave Bluff Trail.  Most of my men were fine with the trip, however a few did have a slight struggle making it to the top.

The weather seemed a little cold for May with the morning temperature being around 28 degrees as we took off for the sunrise at Myrtle point. The trees were filled with heavy rime. The visibility was the best that I had experienced. We could see the many mountain ranges in the distance This was a thrill to me!  The first trip I had made was totally fogged over.  The second was somewhat better. This time we could see the lights of Pigeon Forge and Sevierville quite well.

The stars were spectacular at night. The highlight of the trip was probably the sunset and sunrise. Sadly not all of our men were willing to battle the cold and make the climb with me to Myrtle Point that early in the morning. This is an interesting photo of me at Cliff Tops during sunset. If you are thinking of making the trip, do it. You wont be disappointed. I’m already planning at least one other trip for 2007.
