| Bill Keeton's March 26, 2005 hike to the LeConte Lodge |
| Hi Ed, Got the opportunity to go hiking Thursday March 26th. There has never been a better day to do it. About 40 degrees at the lodge and the weather was perfect. The trail was cleared from the 4 downed trees. Those guys do a fantastic job of keeping the trail in tip top shape. Lots of people on the trail, the parking lot was just about full. The trail was clear of any snow and ice till I got to bust@rock. Also under Cliff Top there was more. There was still a good bit of snow at the top as you can see from the pictures but it was still somewhat lose so walking without crampons was not too hard. The trail as it passes the lodge was snow covered. There was snow on the steps leading to the dining room. The cabins were snowed in but beautiful and snow was under the office porch. The propane tanks were ready to provide heat for the cabins and for cooking. Looking forward to next time. Hope you can come soon. Thanks again for you website it is always interesting to read and an inspiration. Bill Keeton |
